Home Grown MUSICALS AUSTRALIA

Musical theatre by Australian writers

A place to experience the best and newest material written by the Australian industry's own music theatre writers.

AMITY DRY

Amity has been writing music and lyrics since her teens, having played the piano and sung from a very young age. She made two songwriting trips to Nashville early in her career, wanting to tell stories with her songs and feeling that country music was the best avenue for doing that.

Amity Dry started her career as a pop singer, with her 2003 debut album ‘The Lighthouse’ going to #6 on the Aria chart. Her second album ‘True To Me’ was released in 2006. After releasing her two pop/country albums, Amity moved into musical theatre writing, believing that she'd found her true calling as a writer and composer.

Her first cabaret show ‘Mother, Wife and the Complicated Life,’ had a sell out season in the 2009 Adelaide Fringe, inspiring Amity to extend it into a musical. ‘Mother, Wife and the Complicated Life’ - the Musical (MWCL) was nominated for Best Professional Musical in the Adelaide Theatre Guide Awards and toured South Australia.

MWCL was selected for the 2013 New York Musical Theatre Festival and has been staged at the United Nations, as part of the Commission for the Status of Women Conference, and 54 Below New York.

It’s been translated into Norwegian, with the Norwegian production ‘Det Perfekte Liv’ playing a 4-week season at the Kilden Theatre in Kristiansand. It’s played over 100 shows in tours across Australia and been lauded by audiences and critics alike.

Amity is developing her second musical, Famous, which gives an insiders perspective on reality TV. Famous will be work-shopped throughout 2016, with an aim for a 2017 debut. MWCL is in consideration for productions in London, Sweden and Finland.
